Round 1: Langwarrin v Southers Stars — 5 April, 2008

Season 2008 started with Langy welcoming Southern Stars to Lawton Park. Due to the main park not being playable for a further two weeks the match was switched to the top training park. Within 10 seconds of the game starting Langy had a chance when an early ball into the box found O'Donnell however his shot went just over the bar. The next 15 minutes was well contested with some hard tackles going in from both teams which saw a couple of early bookings. Langy had the best chances in this half with the Langy defence dealing with there opponents.

Tagliaferro had a shot that was goal ward bound but it hit the arm of a Southern Star player although the referee felt it was not a penalty. Towards the end of the half Jones was called into more action but Langy were still creating more chances with their wide players seeing plenty of the ball. Just before half time Southern Stars lost there captain after he swore at the ref after already being on a yellow card. So half time the score was 0-0 and 11 men against 10.

Heading uphill in the second half Langy found Southern Stars were pushing to put them under pressure early on. However Langy was able to soak up this pressure and again create some chance's. Then finally in the 67th minute Langy made the break through and were awarded a free kick on the right hand side of the box. Barry Tulloch stepped up and sent over a great ball that found Stuart Craig free 6 yards out and he headed the ball over the advancing keeper.

Just after the goal the Southern Stars keeper pulled of the save of the game after a great run and shot from Barry Tulloch that he was able to tip over the bar. At the 70 minute mark Poole came on for Ahmadzhi and although 1-0 up Langy were not able to keep pressuring Southern Stars and found themselves under pressure.

The equaliser came in the 81st min when a long ball towards the back post was met by the Southern Stars forward who was able to score on a tight angle. Cullen then came on for Craig in the 82nd min along with O'Donaghue for Nicholes in the 85th. In the last 10 minutes although both teams had a couple of chance to finish it off the result stayed 1-1.
