Information Update – February

Posted: 16 February, 2010

It is my intention to provide members with information updates on a regular basis leading up to the start of the 2010 season. I am not sure of the frequency of providing these updates just yet but I hope to do so on a monthly basis at the very least.

The Committee has been extremely busy in the past few months setting up for the new year.

As we reported at our AGM, the Club had a very tough year financially due to the global financial crisis and the bushfire disaster. The Club is now working hard to put that behind us. We have committed to a number of key achievements in 2010.

Financial Stability

We will continue to operate in a financially conservative manner developing a budget that will ensure that we get through 2010 without a financial hitch. This relies on one thing. That we achieve all of the fundraising and expenditure targets set out at the start of the year. It is vital that our members support the Club in its fundraising, social and sponsorship activities in 2010.

Junior Development

We will implement an improved environment for developing junior players through the Langwarrin junior system. To this end we have employed Bobby McLachlan as our director of coaching. His role is to develop the skills of our junior coaches and players. His role augments the role that our senior coaches have with the development squad which is aimed at preparing our juniors for the next step into the U21s or seniors. Finally, we have engaged Jim Morrison to coach the U18 boys in 2010. His task is to prepare the U18 side for competition in the Premier/State League Div 1 U18 competition.

Senior Success

We have committed to provide the senior team with an increased quality of player for the 2010 season. We have done well in attracting three very good quality new players in Dani Black, Matt Durand and Chris Driver. Also we have a couple of players returning from O/S or injury in Chris Quinn and Ben Cullen. These players are added to a quality squad of 2009 players giving us one of the best squads we have seen in a long time. There are also a number of other new players trying out and announcements on them will be made as the pre season continues.

Better Social Activity

We want to increase participation in our social events and the signs are already good with increase involvement from the Bayside seniors and senior women at this early stage.

Retention Of Players

We want to build structures that mean that we do not have to turn Langwarrin members away once they finish their junior involvement. To that end we have added a new senior mens Bayside team and hope to add a second senior womens team. The quality of our Bayside mens teams and senior womens team is improving significantly and a clear alternative for our juniors that do not make the senior teams now exists.
