May Update 2

Posted: 28th May, 2008

We are now 5 games in to the season and most things have now settled down into a bit of a routine.

The juniors are performing with mixed results with some teams struggling because they are playing in a division too high for the squad they have, but to their credit are battling on each week. For those teams especially, the wins will be sweet!

Our U15 ∓ U16 girls teams are examples of two of those playing at a level a little too high with both yet to score a win. Their coaches, however, a very happy with their application and improving play. They feel a win is not too far off.

The U18A girls are travelling very well undefeated at the top of their league.

Our U11As (8th) and U12A (9th), B (8th) & C (7th) are all in the lower part of their respective tables but improving each week.

The U13D side is sitting 2nd in their division and the U13A team is 8th but had a good 3-0 win on the weekend. The U13A has been hit particularly hard by player losses and are to be commended for continuing on in this very tough division.

The U14B (3rd) & C (3rd) teams both had good wins with the U14B winning 7-1 in their game.

The U15A (eq top) & B (3rd) teams both won on the weekend. With the U15As 3-0 win giving it 4 wins with no goals conceded! To make this even more impressive their goalkeeper (CJ Hodgson) has never played in goals before!

The U16A (7th) continue to battle on with a limited squad. They sit in 7th spot but are equal 3rd with 4 other teams.

The U16B (3rd) had a 2-1 win on the weekend.

The U18 boys are performing very well with 2 of the boys playing in the reserves in recent weeks. They currently sit 3 points clear on top of their league after beating 3rd placed Doveton 9-3 on the weekend. Brilliant penalty save Gordy! There are definite candidates for next years reserve squad.

The club has recently instituted a new concept where by Gus McLeod and Jamie Skelly use the Development squad training sessions as instructional sessions for the Club's junior coaches. All coaches are encouraged to attend and have recently seen sessions on defensive play and team shape and patterns of play. These session are invaluable and we believe will result in an overall improvement of the coaching standard within the Club.

A major Club fundraiser has just commenced with the Chocolate drive for 2008. This drive is massively important to the Club finances so please do the right thing and support it enthusiastically.
