Langwarrin suffer first defeat at White Eagles

The seniors suffered their first defeat on the 2018 NPL 2 season, going down to Springvale White Eagles 4-1 at White Eagles stadium.

The Under 20's also came away empty handed, going down 1-0 to a late 2nd half goal.

An Historic Day at Wembley Park

It was an historic day at Wembley Park on Saturday, as our Seniors won their inaugural game in the NPL 2 competition, defeating Box Hill United 2-0. Liam Baxter scored a brace and keeper, Robbie Acs, saved a last minute penalty to ensure we kept a clean sheet.

Unfortunetely the Under 20's went down 3-1 earlier in the day, however their 1st half performance was very promising and that first win is just around the corner.

Under 18's coach appointed for NPL 2018 season

Langwarrin Soccer Club would like to announce the appointment of our under 18’s head coach.

Colin Noble will be joining our coaching for NPL 2018, and he has, in many ways spent much of his life involved in Soccer. Colin has a wealth of experience in coaching in England and in Australia.

Colin was born in Belfast and began playing competitive football at the age of 8 in an under 11 team. He later played for Star of the Sea in the Northern Ireland Amateur League. He also played for Crusaders in the Irish League.

Colin then moved to London to join the Metropolitan Police. Colin played football for the Metropolitan Police, Corinthian Casuals, Chobham and Chessington Utd in the Southern, Isthmian, Spartan and Combined Counties leagues. He played up until he was 40 at that level.

Colin then went to Worcester Park Football Club where he was Player/Coach in the Surrey Premier League. After that he was player/Coach for Malden Vets and they won the London Cup 4 times.

Colin came to Australia in 2009 and has continued to enjoy the Beautiful Game through coaching at Schools, namely Caulfield Grammar where they were voted team of the year 2 out of the 3 years he was there. Colin has also coached at Padua College and the Peninsula School as well as in Junior Schools.

Colin has also coached the Senior Ladies at Dandenong Thunder and the Intermediate boys at Waverley Victory.

In speaking with Colin, he said “I am looking forward to the new challenge at Langwarrin Football Club where I know I can make a difference by motivating, encouraging and developing the boys to reach a higher standard and at the same time allow them to play with enjoyment”.

Remaining Under 12's coach appointed for NPL 2018 season

Langwarrin Soccer Club would like to announce the appointment of our remaining under 12’s head coach. Mitchell Ball will be joining our coaching team for NPL 2018, with an impressive amount of experience for a coach who is relatively so young. Mitchell holds an AFC C senior licence.

For the last 3 and a half years Mitchell has been coaching at Absolute Soccer. Working under the guidance of Nathan Peel, he has been working with younger players, developing their skill base. This dovetails perfectly into the Under 12 role at Langwarrin, where the focus will be on skill acquisition.

Mitchell has travelled extensively to develop his coaching, spending time at Stoke City, Burnley and Blackpool FC’s junior academies. He has a thirst for knowledge. Mitchell has coached junior football at Peninsula Strikers and Skye United, and also coached school football at Patterson River Secondary College.

2017 saw Mitchell move into the NPL, taking an assistant coach’s role at Bulleen FC’s under 16’s team. A successful season culminated in Mitchell touring Spain and Italy with Bulleen FC. Mitchell is still in Europe on the tour, but will be heading home shortly to join us.

Technical director Stephen Fisher commented “I’m really excited about the appointment of Mitchell. He’s had a solid apprenticeship under Nathan Peel, who I consider to be one of the best in the business. His season in the NPL environment will stand him in good stead for his role in 2018. He will do an outstanding job.”

We look forward to welcoming him to Langwarrin SC upon his return.

Under 12's coach appointed for NPL 2018 season

Langwarrin Soccer Club would like to welcome Andy Duckett to our coaching squad for the 2018 NPL season. Andy will be coaching one of our under 12's squads.

He started his coaching journey in the English county of Surrey, coaching juniors at Eggham FC. Arriving in Australia in 2010, he continued coaching juniors at Mt. Eliza SC, from under 6's to under 10's. Andy also ran girls clinics from under 10's to 15's for Toorak College. He then coached under 9's and 10's at Bentleigh Greens.

Andy commenced his C licence last weekend, and looks forward to expanding his coaching knowledge. He brings to our club a solid knowledge of the skills required for our young NPL players, and how to develop them. His enthusiasm will be contagious to our young players.

Under 16's coach appointed for NPL 2018 season

Langwarrin Soccer Club are pleased to announce our under 16’s coach for our 2018 NPL Season.

Michael van der Zwet will be joining our club and bring with him a wealth of coaching experience. Michael’s coaching journey started at Phillip Island Soccer Club in 2009. In 2013 he coached Newhaven College’s school team to the quarter finals of the state championships.

In 2013 Michael became a SAP coach for South Gippsland, becoming the head coach for SAP South Gippsland in 2015, a role he also held in 2016. A very high number of boys that Michael coached in that SAP squad are now playing in the NPL, a testament to the quality of the coaching. Michael became Technical Director of Phillip Island Soccer Club in 2014, a year that saw every team at the club playing finals.

2015 saw Michael embark on his NPL journey at Bentleigh Greens. Michael has spent three seasons at Bentleigh Greens, coaching SAP and NPL juniors.

Michael holds an AFC C licence.

His knowledge and experience will be invaluable to Langwarrin Soccer Club in our inaugural NPL season.

Goalkeeping Coach appointed for 2018 season

Langwarrin Soccer Club is thrilled to announce Chris Jones as our Goalkeeping coach for our 2018 NPL season.

Chris has been involved with Langwarrin Soccer Club for the last 12 years, with 6 years as the Senior goalkeeper and 3 of those as the club captain. He has since enjoyed the last 6 years playing in our Bayside league sides as well as being a committee member for the club.

In the early years, Chris was a Karingal United junior and also played in their senior side for 3 years (never losing to Langy!). He then moved to Springvale City to play Premier League at the age of 17 under current Langwarrin Senior coach, Gus MacLeod. Further stints at Oakleigh and Bentleigh Greens followed.

Chris then played with South Melbourne in the old NSL for 5 years highlighted by playing in the 2000 World Club Championships in Brazil (Maracana stadium) against Manchester United and Vasco De Gama. In these games he played against the likes of Beckham, Giggs and Romario. Chris also had a season with current EPL side, Brighton Hove Albion, winning the then 2nd division championship.

In speaking to Chris, he is excited to see Langwarrin gain NPL status after a wonderful season and officially being the #1 club on the Peninsula. He looks forward to working with a great bunch of coaches throughout the club to improve the overall standard of goalkeeping.

Chris will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our young goalkeepers and we are privileged to have him on board.

Under 14's Head Coach appointed for 2018 season

Langwarrin Soccer Club are proud to announce the appointment of our under 14’s coach for the 2018 NPL season.

Donn Delaney will be joining us from Springvale White Eagles, where he has coached NPL juniors for 4 years. He brings a wealth of NPL experience and coaching knowledge to our program. Donn’s under 13’s finished third in NPL East this season, being in the running for the title right until the final day of the season.

He holds an AFC C coaching licence.

Donn was previously a long term junior coach with Peninsula Strikers, coaching from under 6’s to under 14’s.

He is a positive and enthusiastic coach who will help educate a new generation of Langwarrin players.

We would like to welcome Donn and his family to our family.

Under 13's Head Coach appointed for 2018 season

Langwarrin Soccer Club is thrilled to announce our next coaching appointment for our 2018 NPL junior season. Gary Brisbane will coach the under 13’s team in our inaugural NPL campaign.

Gary has been involved with Langwarrin Soccer Club for over 20 years. He was a talented junior who debuted in Langwarrin's Senior Squad as a 17 Year old. He continued to play Senior Football under Gus Macleod, enjoying the rise and success of the Club.

Gary was a multiple league winner with Langwarrin as the Club rose out of Division 4 up to State League Division 1, winning 3 Championships along the way. When his playing career finished he took up junior coaching with Langwarrin. An outstanding junior coach over many seasons, the proof of this being the number of his former players now playing in the NPL.

Gary passed up a chance to Coach Under 12’s last year as he took time to focus on his son Cooper Football when he got accepted to play NPL with Dandy Thunder. The year off was an opportunity to see NPL juniors first hand as a spectator, taking time to absorb other's philosophy on how the game was played. “I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to take a group of young lads and develop them in their endeavours to be NPL players. I aim to give the best possible opportunity to develop and enjoy their football experience”

Under 15's Head Coach appointed for 2018 season

Langwarrin Soccer Club is thrilled to announce our next coaching appointment for our 2018 NPL junior season. Former professional player and coach Doug Hodgson will coach the under 15’s team in our inaugural NPL campaign. Doug comes to Langwarrin Soccer Club as one of the most decorated football people to come from the Frankston area.

A former Frankston Pines junior, Doug represented Victoria as a junior in under 13’s, 14’s and 15’s. He then represented both Victoria and Western Australia at senior level. Doug playing career includes Heidelberg United in the NSL, then Sheffield United, Plymouth Argyle, Burnley, Oldham Athletic and Northampton Town in England. Bergkamp, Yorke, Beckham, Wright, Ginola and Scholes are just some of the names that Doug has played against.

A career ending injury to his neck, at a young age of 29 lead to a pathway in coaching. Beginning with the Under 15s in the Northampton Town youth system, he then became the first Australian to coach professionally in the UK. Doug was appointed reserve team manager at Sheffield United alongside former managers Neil Warnock and Kevin Blackwell who are currently still involved in the game at Cardiff City Football Club. Coaching time in the UK was well spent and he was fortunate to be able to spend time alongside coaches like Sammy Lee, Gerald Houllier, Arsene Wenger, Dave Basset, Howard Kendall, and Neil Warnock. Players that were coached by Doug include Phil Jagielka and Nick Montgomery, who went on to captain Everton and Central Coast Mariners respectively.

Doug holds a UEFA B coaching qualification, and was in process of obtaining his A licence when family reasons led him to returning to Australia. Since returning to Australia, Doug been involved in seniors level in the Victorian Premier League with Heidelberg United ,Preston Macedonia , Richmond , Springvale City , and Frankston Pines. He has also had the opportunity to assist coach Victoria senior team and coach strong regional team SSA Boomers in Albury Wodonga and the youth NSL team and also U15 country NSW State Team over the years.

Doug is passionate about youth coaching and watching the development and growth of players as individuals and within a team, providing pathways for them to progress at a domestic level and overseas. Over the last 3 years he has been coaching at a junior level at Mornington SC developing a team who became this year’s Victorian State Champions and winning the U14 Kangaroos league by 9 points. One of Doug’s greatest highlights was having the honour of being asked by Langwarrin SC president Steve Wallace to open the new clubrooms at Lawton Park in 1997. To this day that holds a very special place in his heart. Doug stated “I cannot wait to join Stephen Fisher and his team at such an exciting time. I am really looking forward to being a part of the next chapter of the Langwarrin Soccer Club”.

Technical Director Stephen Fisher commented “Being able to attract someone with Doug’s standing in the game is such a massive coup for our club. He is without doubt one of the best people in the game, and his football pedigree speaks for itself. I cannot express enough how thrilled we are to have Doug and his family join us”.

NPL U20's Head Coach appointed for 2018 season

Langwarrin Soccer Club is delighted to welcome former player, Kevin “Squizzy” Taylor as coach of our U20s for NPL season 2018. “Squizzy” brings to the club a wide range of skills and experience along with an impressive Coaching CV.

The former Langwarrin, Seaford, Frankston Pines and Mornington player is the holder of an AFC “B” licence. He led Seaford United to promotion twice in three seasons, including the State League Four championship in 2013. Two seasons as coach of NPL powerhouse Bentleigh Greens U20’s squad lead to a championship in 2015, and the development of a number of players who have featured at National Youth League, NPL, NPL 2 and State League levels. Season 2017 saw Taylor at the helm of Westgate FC and in an assistant’s role at Frankton Pines. “Squizzy” said the following on his appointment, “I’m delighted to be back at Langwarrin in these exciting times for the club. I’m really looking forward to working with Gus (MacLeod) and Ronnie (Whitton), and putting together a squad of talented youngsters who will be knocking on the door of the senior team”.

Langwarrin Soccer Club president John Heskins has described the securing of Taylor’s services as a coup for the club. “We are very excited to have secured “Squizzy” to take up an important role for season 2018. He has a proven record at NPL U20 level and we are sure he will play a key role in preparing our senior players of the future.”
